You are reading the "Phalaenopsis Species" category of my online catalog. Click on an underlined link to see a larger picture, additional pictures, or to read more information if it is available. Please remember that offspring from hybrid matings will be unique and sometimes very different from each other and the individual pictures used to represent the cross. Species grown from seed will show more uniformity (they are species after all) but each plant will still be unique.
DPE1496 Phal. amabilis
Clean white medium sized flowers on branching spikes. Compact growing plants with light green neatly roundish leaves.
2.5″ pot………$12.00
4″ pot…………$19.00
DPE1667 Phal. amboinensis
Spring to Summer bloomer. Fragrant (smells like ozone to me). Long lasting flowers of heavy waxy substance.
4″ pot………….$25.00
DPE1308 Phal. bellina
Fragrant; a bit like lemon to my nose. Tends to be a summer bloomer. Usually one to two flowers open at a time on short spikes but older mature plants can have branching spikes each with a flower or two open. This is another Phal species that holds onto green dormant spikes for many years and will bloom out a few flowers from the tip each flowering season even as it makes new spikes. These seedlings are offspring of the plant pictured (‘Big Bear’), and another cultivar with a long, narrow more star-shaped flower.
2.5″ pot………$25.00
DPE1375 Phal. braceana (‘Leesburg’ x ‘Old Dominion’)
A miniature to compact growing species with one inch sized green to greenish bronze flowers.
mounted………$25.00
DPE1042 Dor. buyssoniana (‘Leesburg’ x self)
Some consider buyssoniana to be a var. of pulcherrima. And the two or three species in this genus are now considered by many to be Phals anyway… Size, both of the flowers and the plant itself, is the primary visual difference between buyssoniana and pulcherrima. The flower color of buyssoniana tends to be a less intense purple.
2.5″ compot………$25.00 (three baby plants)
2.5″ pot………$19.00
4″ pot…………$25.00
5″ pot…………$30.00
DPE1293 Phal. chibae (‘Pebbles’, CCM/AOS x ‘Millie’)
A compact to miniature plant ultimately reaching a leaf span of about 10 to 12 inches. This species sometimes travels under the name Kingidium chibae. Very easy to grow and bloom. Begins blooming on small plants in 2.5″ pots. Blooms in the spring.
4″ pot…………$25.00
DPE1796 Phal. cochlearis
A yellow star shaped flower. Holds old spikes for many years and adds new flowers to them each blooming season, which tends to be in late spring to early summer for me. I am not sure why this species is so rare in cultivation. Grown from seed by me and made by selfing the plant pictured here.
2.5? compot………$30.00 (three baby plants)
DPE0173 Phal. equestris ‘Kiekie Monster’
A species that has loads of small purple flowers on branching spikes and tends to make little plantlets called kiekies on the tips of of the spikes when it is done flowering.
2.5″ pot………$19.00
4″ pot…………$25.00
DPE1379 Phal. hainanensis (‘Leesburg’ x ‘Old Dominion’)
A miniature semi-deciduous Phal species. To my nose these are extremely fragrant and remind me of grape candy. Blooms in the spring in my greenhouse. These are mounted on 3″ x 5″ pieces of cork bark.
mounted………$25.00
DPE1298 Phal. lueddemanniana (‘woodlawn’ x self)
These are offspring of the cultivar ‘Woodlawn’. This plant makes very long spikes which in turn make short little spurs that bloom. Then it makes lots of kiekies. Blooms in the spring for me. Fragrant.
2.5″ pot………$19.00
4″ pot…………$25.00
5″ pot…………$30.00
