Beautiful Orchid plants in flower

You are reading "The Red Tag Journal". Stuff found in this section is NOT FOR SALE. I wanted a place on my website to post pictures and write about my greenhouse or garden, or whatever... If you find it here and you want it then check my Orchid Catalog (use the search box) because THAT is where things for sale will be found. If it here but not in my catalog, I will not respond if you write to ask me how much it costs or when it will be available or if I will sell you a piece or where you can find it.

The parents of Coral Masterpiece ‘Georgia’ are (Jewell Jamison ‘Orchidview’, AM/AOS x Goldiana ‘Eureka’, AM/AOS) I wish I could get a picture of this flower that would do it justice. The flower is huge and a soft peachy color.

Amorphophallus: What is that Horrible Smell?

amorphophallusIt is impossible to describe how bad it can be. Especially when several different species bloom at once in an enclosed space. I knew they were going to have remarkable odors: their pollinators are carrion eating beetles and other insects that are attracted to dung and to dead and vile rotting stuff. But I was just not sufficiently prepared…

Virginia Native Tree Frogs Go Tropical

treefrogOccasionally, coming from the back of the greenhouse, I will hear a customer’s rapid high pitched squeal because something just leapt up at them from an orchid plant they were admiring. The fierce and frightening creature pictured is usually the culprit. It’s a tree frog.
